The Parris Island Museum

The 10,000 square-feet facility focuses on the history of Parris Island from prehistoric times to the present. Ground floor exhibits cover archaeology, Native Americans, 16th-century French & Spanish settlements on Parris Island, the American Revolution and the Civil War in the Lowcountry. It also features a large diorama displaying Marine uniforms from 1775 to the present. Second floor exhibits include Marine Corps history from 1909, with an emphasis on both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm. A theater, archives, and gift shop complete the facility.

The Penn Center stands as the site of one of the country's first schools for freed slaves and one of the most significant African American historical and cultural institutions in existence today. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1974, the Penn Center's mission is to promote and preserve the history and culture of the Sea Islands. We serve as a local, national and international resource center, and act as a catalyst for the development of programs for self-sufficiency.

Located downtown on Bay Street in Historic Beaufort, South Carolina, the John Mark Verdier House is one of the finest architectural examples of the Federal Period. Built circa 1800, its antique room settings further illustrate life in Beaufort during the 19th century. The Historic Beaufort Foundation now owns the house, operating it as the only historic house open in Beaufort on a regular basis.
